National Action & Coordination Group For Ending Violence Against Children, India (NACG- EVAC India) is a country-level civil society forum of the South Asia Initiative to End Violence against Children (SAIEVAC) with a vision that all children irrespective of gender, throughout South Asia enjoy their right to an environment free from all forms of violence, abuse, exploitation, neglect & discrimination. NACG EVAC India is the only network of relevant civil society organizations that represents actors from all the states and thus becomes a truly national-level network.

The NACGs are constituted by child rights organizations including entities that promote children’s rights and have a crucial role in coordinating the EVAC agenda of SAIEVAC at the National level, particularly with the SAIEVAC Government mechanisms. The NACGs have a regional defined and customized country-specific governance structure. This network, through its long-standing expertise and experience, is in a good position to implement the planned project activity.

SAIEVAC regional and national mechanisms share a vision that all children irrespective of gender, throughout South Asia enjoy their right to an environment free from all forms of violence, abuse, exploitation, neglect & discrimination.

PURPOSE

The purpose behind the establishment of NACG can be grouped under the following heads:

To ensure the realization of children’s rights as stated in the UNCRC and its Optional Protocols and the relevant SAARC Conventions.
To take forward the SAIEVAC agenda in India for ending violence against children.
To prevent and respond to all forms of neglect, abuse, exploitation and violence against children in all settings.

PRINCIPLE

The four guiding principles of NACG are non-discrimination; devotion to the best interests of the child; the right to dignified life, survival and development; and respect for the views of the child.

OBJECTIVES

To promote and work towards the realization of children’s rights in India.
To prevent and respond to all forms of neglect, abuse, exploitation & violence against children in all settings.
To strengthen civil society networking at all levels across the country for building national awareness & commitment to stop child marriage child labour, child trafficking, sexual abuse and exploitation & corporal punishment, promoting an inclusive environment by addressing issues of children with disability and facilitation of participation of children.
To seek & form linkages with Government, institutions and professional bodies to make child safety a public concern and commitment, &constructively engage with government policies & measures.
To stand up for a rights-based approach to anticipating, preventing and eliminating violence against children.
To promote strong policies, laws, & programs for the good of children and monitor their actual benefits to children.
To be a country forum for collective learning and sharing, advocacy & action.
